A highly visual and inspirational guide to curating our homes so that they feel both joyful and genuinely reflect who we are.
Is there any better feeling than coming home to a place you love? A haven that fully aligns with the essence of you? Creating a spirited home is not abiding by the latest trends, materialism, or following step-by-step instructions from “experts” on what looks best. This is your home. The more we fill our homes with sentimental objects and symbols of life-lived—things that genuinely reflect who we are and what we love—the more they will become the sanctuaries we mean for them to be—our very own spirited spaces.
With an encouraging and comforting and non-critical voice, author, photographer, and creative visionary Julie Pointer Adams emboldens us to follow our own creative leanings for making our homes cozy, joyful havens, as well as gentle suggestions for how to successfully create a spirited space.
This book colors outside the lines of a traditional interiors book. Brimming with luminous and inspiring original photography, taken by Julie, of spirited interiors throughout, Spirited Spaces is organized by theme in order to help the reader think about what feels good, what’s exciting, what feels safe, and tips and prompts to help the reader to achieve the vibe they want in their homes, including: Designing for Flow (are the pieces in your living room in conversation with each other, or do they feel disparate?), Color as Artist’s Palette (does using earth tones help to infuse calm energy into your space, or do you prefer something more bold?), The Pleasures of Light (is it important to have abundant sunlight or filtered dappled light indoors?), Making Spaces (do you like lots of cozy spaces to curl up in?), Living with Things (what are the objects that bring you joy—are they photographs of loved ones, magnets from a trip to Europe, a quilt that a relative made for you), and more.
